IP Multicast Standards and Implementation Update
Router implementations support:
- PIM (RFC 2362) is a de facto standard
- New version to be published on the Standards Track and includes enhanced Finite State Machines as well as SSM flavor
- MSDP is a de facto standard (to be published as an Experimental RFC) for propagating ASM-related multicast source information across domains
- But support of MP-BGP (RFC 2858) is highly recommended
- At least the first two versions of IGMP (RFC 1112, 2236)
- IGMPv3 (RFC 3376) allowing for dynamic source filtering
Kernels
- Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP are IP multicast-enabled
Applications
- Real Player, Media Player, IP/TV, CU-SeeMe are IP multicast-capable
